David O. Ranz, M.D.

Dr. Ranz received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.    He then graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. and completed his internship at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  Dr. Ranz then practiced emergency medicine in Florida for 6 years, and became a board certified diplomate of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 1989.   He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Nashville Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Ranz is also a member of the Tennessee Medical Association, the Rutherford County and Stones River Academy of Medicine, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Betty is a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and has been working in the ophthalmology field for over 16 years.  She has been working with Dr. Ranz since his first day of practice, July 13, 1989.   Her areas of expertise are refracting, fundus photography, and surgical counseling.   Betty collects Betty Boop items and enjoys reading.  She has been secretary for the Christiana Volunteer Fire Department for several years.

Vickie is a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and has been working in the ophthalmology field for 27 years.  She joined SREC over 10 years ago when her family relocated to Murfreesboro.  Vickie specializes in refracting, low vision training, and is our Lasik co-ordinator.  She has a special interest in antiques, and enjoys finding them when she has time away from the office.  Vickie has two children and is anxiously awaiting the arrival of  her first grandchild.  

Nancy is a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and has been in ophthalmology for 21 years.  She has been working with Dr. Ranz for 9 years.  Nancy performs many special procedures including fundus photography, visual fields, and GDX nerve fiber analysis.   Whenever she gets vacation time, Nancy likes to take long road trips on her Harley Davidson.

Front Office Staff 

Known here as Mindy, our office manager can do almost any job that needs to be done. She has been billing clerk, apprentice optician, receptionist, scribe, and ophthalmic assistant.  Mindy also assists Dr. Ranz in skin evaluations and gives a wonderful facial.  She has been with SREC for 7 years.  In her spare time Mindy likes to collect antiques.  She is also the choir director at the Auburn Baptist Church in Auburntown.

Lisa has worked in the ophthalmology field for 10 years, 9 of those years in the billing department. SREC was lucky to find her 2 ½ years ago since people familiar with ophthalmology coding and billing are hard to find.   Lisa works hard to stay informed of the ever-changing insurance and coding regulations, and has been a huge help to the patients needing explanation of their insurance benefits.  She is married and has 3 children.

Rosie has been a receptionist for Stones River Eye Center since 1998.  She is in charge of ordering supplies, and helping patients check out. Her previous work experience was with a university for 23 years.

Jennifer is a full time student at MTSU, majoring in Criminal Justice.  She works at SREC 3 days a week, more when her school schedule permits.  In Jennifer’s spare time she studies.

Carla has been employed by SREC for over 2 years.  She schedules appointments and does anything else needed to keep the office running smoothly.  Carla plans to finish her college degree at MTSU.

Optician, B.J. Holland

Brenda Holland

Brenda (B.J.) has worked in the optical field for 22 years.  She became a licensed optician in 1989, and is ABO and NCLE certified.  Brenda has the expertise and experience to help anyone chose the perfect frame and lens to achieve their best corrected vision.  (And look great, too)  In her time off B.J. enjoys gardening, flower arranging, fishing, and crocheting.  She is married with 3 children and 2 step-children and loves spending time with her family.

Brenda has worked in the optical field for the last 8 years as a dispensing optician and optical lab technician.  She joined SREC in August, 2001.  Brenda is working towards her certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant under the supervision of Dr. Ranz. She also helps in the front office and optical dispensary when needed. Brenda is an avid Tennessee Titans fan, and collects anything Titans.  She also enjoys playing the violin and piano.
